British Black Honey Bee

The British Black Honey Bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) is the UK's native honey bee. Until recently it was thought to be extinct in Britain apart from a few small populations. One colony was even found local to me, in the rafters of an old Northumberland church. Its darker colouring is distinctive from other honey bees seen in the UK.
